This is a not for profit fan site based on the PC game Marvel Heroes. If you’re not a fan of the game or Marvel superhero comics or movies then it may not mean much to you!
The Adventures of Punchclops was created while I was playing Marvel Heroes, the excellent online multiplayer action role playing game set in the Marvel Universe (think Diablo with superheroes!).
It occurred to me that it could be a bit of silly fun to see how terrible it would be to try playing a superhero without using any of his super powers! Cyclops was the obvious choice as he had a rather impressive “Trained Punch” ability to use instead of all that messy eye blast business.
To my surprise Cyclops turned out to be quite playable using only his punch to attack the bad guys and thus Punchclops was born!
I started detailing my findings in a post on the official Marvel Heroes forum and discovered that a number of people found it to be quite entertaining. I then added a few screenshots to prove that Punchclops was actually surviving the fights I was talking about.
While snoozing lightly on my train ride to work one morning I suddenly realised I could create a webcomic. I thought I’d be able to come up with enough dumb ideas for at least two or three issues. It turned out that I have way more dumb ideas than I could ever have imagined!
Thanks go to:
- Gazillion – for creating a fun game packed with superheroes that I have loved for as long as I can remember.
- The forum regulars – for being incredibly supportive of my crazy ideas.
- The devs – who managed to animate so much emotion into just a few different moves in the game.
- Stan Lee – for creating so much of this whole crazy Marvel Universe and just for being himself.
Love the comic. Would love to see Cyclops in his 90’s outfit for an episode or two. ;/
Looking forward for Punchclops Origins.
Why Punchclops behaves that way?
Is the Punchant Genome produce insanity? is the mutant race doomed?
Is Jean Gray giving a lesson to her love one because he forgot their aniversary?
Is Punchclops secret identity Scott Summers or is another guy not related?
Great work MatWard!
I just found a Cyclops Unique, named LEGACY OF PUNCHLOPS, so… there you go 🙂
Congratulations! That unique was named for the hero of this very webcomic. But I still haven’t managed to find one myself! 🙁
Dear Punchclops creative guy: I enjoy your strip and try to read every installment. Part 2 of the time travel arc made me roar. I really don’t know why anyone would be down on poor Punchclops. If they don’t like him, they don’t have to read the strip. I was sorry to hear you had ended your 5 year relationship, hurt your tendon, moved back in with your folks AND were expecting to lose your job. Even tho I do not know you, I do not like to think about bad things happening to you, especially if they might interfere with your constant production of yet more Punchclops episodes. Thank you for making me laugh. What the heck is a Gravatar? Punchie isn’t hurting anyone so be nice to him, people! Signed, me. P.S. Good fortune in the New Year. Signed, me again. 🙂
Hi there!
Sorry for lateness in replying. I’m a little startled because I rarely get any comments on these comics!
Thanks for your kind words – the good news is I didn’t lose my job and I didn’t move back in with my folks. Hooray!
Dear Punchclops-creating app
Hope this means you are feeling better. Your many fans Ior at least me) all felt your pain as you worked your way through the recent hard times.
Imagine my surprise after bringing up your Punchy strip and discovering something besides wolverine walking into a punchclops crowd scene at the bar or the yellow background and acheivement strip.
You have made me very happy I devoured a great many new strips in one sitting.
And the best part was it was my birthday! It was like you gave me a big mess of punchclops strips for my birthday after i had missed that big dummy for so long.
Much success in everything and happiness also.
Your cheering fan
Mike
